take me home country roads

Klangfarbenmelodie

Verdigris sat along the edge of the butte. Out across the horizon stood an infinite rippling landscape, broken only by a tower in the center of their vision. The mast of a long gone ship, taken by these rocky waves. Off to the side stood the hole they crawled out of, only visible now by the soft red blinking lights hanging above it. Downwards they traced a path home, but upwards...

Every so often he could see the silhouette of a lemure flitting around the spire at the crater's center. A dragonfly searching for a good spot to land, rest. Or hunt. They were never sure if they were still looking for them.

Why would they? There is nothing they can gain from finding me. "If they wanted me they would have found me by now." Verdigris chuckled.

The lights of the spire flickered on and off every now and then. The insomniacs working their duties into the night, either giving in to the comfort of a bed or looking to fix whatever it was they just knocked over. The largest light, located close to the top, stood timidly and dimly on an out of the way platform, a cherry on Lemuria's tallest dessert.

The lights even higher belonged to no one, raining pricks of light onto the arid land. A few of the windsocks on spire began to face the twilight as a cool breeze washed over the mesa. They could feel the wind caressing their hair, billowing around their wings. A few flecks of sand flew up from the ledge and blasted their legs and wings. Verdigris stood up.

Ugh. Ow. They brushed it off, and put their flying goggles on. Well, at least it isn't real sand. That would have really hurt. "Its always nice to watch the ant farm before a flight." They stretched their wings. First the upper ones. Then the lower.

"Let's see what our Arbiter left for me out... that way, hmm? That's east right?"

"...well, east and down. Way down."
